Meet the founder of The Mental Health Store - Monique Shipp, a clinical psychologist, with an extensive background in clinical psychology and organisational behaviour.
Monique Shipp had spent years as a dedicated clinical psychologist, guiding clients through therapy sessions and helping them uncover strategies for managing their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. But she noticed a recurring challenge—while clients gained valuable insights in therapy, many struggled to translate those lessons into their daily lives.
Week after week, Monique would hear clients say, “I understood everything we talked about in session, but once I got home, I struggled to apply it.” Or, “I wish I had something to remind me what to do when I’m feeling overwhelmed.”

That’s when inspiration struck. Therapy provided the foundation, but what if there were tools to bridge the gap between sessions? Monique envisioned The Mental Health Store— a space where clients could use Mental Health Products tailored to reinforce therapy strategies—something tangible to support their journey beyond the therapy room.

With that vision, she founded The Mental Health Store Pty Ltd, designed to empower individuals with custom made mental health products that made therapeutic strategies more accessible and practical. Each product is thoughtfully designed to help people navigate real-life challenges with confidence.

Dr. Winnicott’s theory emphasises the importance of transitional objects—physical items that help individuals process emotions, develop independence, and bridge experiences between internal and external realities. He observed that children use comfort objects, such as blankets or teddy bears, to navigate feelings of security and autonomy. This idea extends into adulthood, where tangible items can serve as psychological anchors to reinforce emotional regulation and learned behaviors outside of the therapy room.

Monique believes that for individuals engaged in therapy, mental health products can play a valuable supporting role—extending the benefits of sessions into everyday life by reinforcing therapeutic skills and providing ongoing guidance between appointments.
The Mental Health Store is grounded in Object Relations Theory, recognising that just as children rely on a security object to navigate separation, adults can also benefit from therapeutic tools that provide a sense of continuity outside the therapy room. Resources such as journals, guided workbooks, flashcards, and mindfulness kits function as transitional supports—helping individuals recall strategies, regulate emotions, and gradually embed new coping skills into their daily routines.

By drawing on Donald Winnicott’s framework, Monique has designed products that are not only practical, but psychologically informed. Each item acts as a bridge between therapy and real-world application, supporting clients to internalise key insights, strengthen resilience, and maintain a sense of connection to the therapeutic process even when they are not in session.

At The Mental Health Store we help people grow in mental health awareness which is just as crucial as therapy itself, we expanded the store’s offerings to include workshops, courses, group therapy, and training programs. These resources provide individuals, families, and even professionals with the tools to deepen their understanding of mental well-being, breaking the stigma and fostering lasting change.
Monique has bridged the gap —between therapy to everyday life in a way that makes healing not just possible, but sustainable.
And with every mental health product, course, and session, our mission is to be your partner in Mental Health: Therapy, Products, and Knowledge.
